Don't Stop

I wasted a lot of time. Either being not sure of myself and doing constant research, or by pure procrastination and thinking i'd do it later, watch that YouTube video, or play another round of Candy Crush. And don't get me wrong, there are definitely times for those things. But in the end it all comes down to this. Do you want this? Is this what you want to do with your life?

And it's not just writing, you could be a director, or a rapper, or a rocker, or whatever. Are you willing to work for it? Do you have what it takes?

I have this new way of thinking. It goes something like the Nike slogan, just do it. And that's what i'm doing now, trying to bridge the gap of procrastination and studying theory over the years.

I am finding that there is one sure way to go about this, you just do it. And do it. And don't stop.

You fail? Keep moving. Someone puts you down? Who cares, don't listen, keep moving.

Things seem stacked against you? Good! You're going to show them what you're made of.

It's important to keep positive. Ever notice how when you go to exercise and you're tired and your body says you can't do this, and you really feel that way. But then you think of what the goal is, you put on your favorite song, you start and see that it's not so bad. And you keep going. And before you know it you're at the end of that session. Before you know it you're making progress.

Before you know it, you're on your way. It becomes easy.

Above all, very simply, don't look back. Just keep going.

There are a lot of people who will tell you you can't do it, you'll never be able to make it. But you have to show them.

As you write more, as you send out more, you'll get better. You may send out a story to a place, but you have to remember you'll write hundreds more stories, don't worry if one doesn't get accepted. And you can always go and rewrite that one that wasn't so great later, but don't stop. Keep moving to the next story. if 20 don't get accepted, write another 20, send them out. You will eventually get accepted.

See, that's the thing. If you're a writer you write, if you're a director you direct, if you're a music artist you make music. It's what you do, like the Geico commercial (haha). You just do it.

Now get to writing. And then you can get a little Candy Crush in later. Enjoy.
